Please note: Dr Kang Nee has retired from active consulting and training and is no longer accepting clients. This page is preserved as an archival case study demonstrating how fear free co-operative care can transform routine home care and veterinary visits.
As an Elite Fear Free Certified Professional (Elite-FFCP), and Low Stress Handling Certified practitioner, Dr Kang Nee specialised in helping dogs navigate essential medical and grooming procedures without heightening their levels of fear, anxiety or stress (FAS). Her co-operative care programmes equipped pet parents with the tools to make routine care – such as nail trims, ear cleaning, and vet exams – a positive, low-stress experience.
* The Challenge: Everyday handling, grooming, or veterinary visits can trigger high stress, making standard care difficult or distressing for dogs and their guardians.
* The Approach: Utilising a step-by-step co-operative care framework, pet parents learned to implement management tactics, build positive emotional associations, use gentle handling techniques, and practise real-life scenarios.
* The Outcome: Dogs learned to actively participate and offer calm signals (such as a “zen down”) when ready, turning potential vet or grooming struggles into co-operative, fear free experiences.
While active instruction is no longer available, the core philosophy of these programmes emphasised:
* Emotional Well-Being: Protecting dogs from fear, anxiety and stress by honouring their body language and emotional thresholds.
* Co-operative Choice: Empowering dogs to actively participate in their own care through consent-based, force-free training.
* Fear Free, Low Stress Handling: Partnering with veterinary professionals and utilising gentle techniques to ensure lifelong health maintenance is as safe and calm as possible.
In her active practice, Dr Kang Nee guided dogs and their guardians through structured co-operative care training, using examples like Chief Cheery Officer (CCO) Kiyo’s successful wellness checks with veterinary partners. e.g. his favourite vet, Dr Ang Yilin from Mt Pleasant Animal Medical Centre (Farrer).
- Left: he engages with Dr Ang willingly, and shows relaxed body language
- Centre: he co-operates with Dr Ang for his examination, by offering a “zen down” to show that he’s ready
- Right: big smiles for a successful wellness check, and well-earned treats
