The Total Canine Fitness Training Puzzle

Cardio. Flexibility. Strength. Balance. Mental

Why consider canine fitness training?

Because your dog needs enrichment and a well-balanced exercise programme for her well-being.

Happy in our cheerfuldogs canine fitness programme

I believe that maintaining a physically healthy and fit body is the key to aging well and comfortably. I did what I thought was the best for Happy. I insisted on long walks in an attempt to keep him fit, simply because I thought that walking is the way to go to exercise my dog physically. Happy stopped enjoying his walks, and when I took out his leash, he would choose to lie down or hide instead of coming to the door. I was perplexed and sad to see a sad Happy.

That’s when I approached Nee for help. I signed up for the cheerfuldogs Canine Fitness Programme, and boy, that was the best thing I could have done for Happy! It was refreshing to see him enjoying his exercises. Nee not only taught us the way to exercise Happy safely and effectively with the various fitness equipment, but most importantly she showed me how to have fun with Happy so that we both look forward to the exercises. I have bonded so much with Happy, and it was sooo satisfying to see Happy’s muscles toning up. By giving him a choice of different exercise options, Happy also started enjoying his walks again! I am glad I took the leap and will not hesitate to recommend this canine fitness programme to our other canine pals!!

Canine fitness and conditioning with cheerfuldogs

When we think of fitness training for our family dog, we think immediately of familiar physical activities like walks, jogging, swimming and maybe a dog sport like agility. But what happens if a busy schedule and bad weather prevent you from taking that walk together? Perhaps your senior dog needs a different fitness training programme to address a specific condition, such as decreased hind limb strength and awareness? Can you embark on a preventive exercise or fitness programme that helps to protect your healthy, active dog from strain and sprains as he runs, jumps, twists and turns in play?

As a Certified Canine Fitness Trainer (CCFT), this is where we work with your vet’s recommendations for health, nutrition and exercise requirements, to craft a total fitness training programme to complement your dog’s wellness programme at each stage of his life. This is one way to help your dog live well from puppyhood into his senior years, maintaining the ability to perform functional activities like climbing stairs, getting into the car, or maintaining good balance on uneven surfaces.

Staying fit is for everyone and for every dog, and we will help you achieve that together.

Force-free dog training and canine fitness in New Zealand

We’ve really benefited from our cheerfuldogs Canine Fitness Programme! With guidance from our fitness coach, Nee, we achieved results with Elliot and Korn that we never thought we could (especially as we’re in New Zealand and Nee is in Singapore). While Elliot and Korn have always had enough exercise in the form of varied walks, they now have a better sense of balance, muscle strength and flexibility.

This is especially beneficial for Elliot, who is 14 years old. Both dogs have learnt new skills and so have we, in learning together in a fun, safe and fear free way, using force-free dog training techniques. The bond between our dogs and us has been further enhanced with these new games, which as an added bonus, are fantastic for wet days!

Canine Fitness Options

The Game Plan is where we begin to design your canine fitness training programme. We’ll test your dog in 5 core fitness areas:

  • Cardio
  • Flexibility
  • Strength
  • Balance
  • Mental

Based on how your dog performs in the fitness test, we’ll customise a canine fitness programme that will exercise your dog in all 5 core areas and in different planes of motion (e.g. up, down, forwards, backwards, sideways, turns and twists). The level of difficulty for each exercise and/ or the type of exercise in the programme will be adjusted as your dog’s fitness level changes.

Once the Game Plan has been developed for your dog, you’re ready to choose one of two canine fitness training options.

  • The “Home Gym” Package is for you if you prefer a more “DIY” approach to working out with your dog, with designated hours of online and in-home guidance from us.
  • The “Personal Trainer” Package is for you if you prefer us to provide personal training for you and your dog at home, or at our cosy fitness studio.

Our canine fitness programme is designed to be fun, easy to execute and tailored to your schedule and fitness goals for your dog. Our focus is not on performance speed but in developing good form and teamwork in the execution of each exercise. We look for joyfulness in your dog and listen for that smile in your voice as you and your dog stay fit together.
